What do ya think?

One tradition around here (maybe it is everywhere) is that you don't just ask someone to a dance, you need to come up with some fun, elaborate plan. It's cute, don't get me wrong. It has just been a bit overwhelming for my boys. It is so not their style and is one of the reasons they dread school dances.

Justin has given in and has asked a girl to the prom. He TEXT her. I told him that even though she already has accepted his offer, he needs to do something "special".

In the past we have had girls do some cute things to ask my boys to the girls choice dances. I thought I would share them so that I would have a record of them. And, to give you some ideas if you ever have to do something like this at your house. Here are a few that stick out in my mind.

#1 Jordan's room was filled with die cut stars, Starburst, and confetti stars. A poster was left on his bed that said something like "Be my star and go with me to the dance" and then there was a P.S. that said "My name is written in the stars". So he looked and looked through all the stars around his room and didn't find anything. That night when he went to bed, her name was written on his ceiling in glow and the dark stars. Pretty cute!

#2 Justin's entire bed was COVERED with punched out hearts, all colors and sizes. Then right in the middle was a pretty big red plastic container with a note that said "It would melt my heart if you would go to the dance with me". Inside the container was a huge piece of ice in the shape of a heart. Obviously the name of the girl was inside the frozen heart. Justin waited a day and a half and still couldn't get to the card to reveal the name. Finally he ran it under hot water to find out who it was. Fun stuff!

#3 Hundreds of Tootsie Rolls were THROWN ALL OVER Jordan's room. (This was over a year ago and I still don't think we have found them all Ü) A cute poster was on his wall that said "Hey Toots, wanna roll to the dance". That was creative, even though I don't really like the image of him "rolling" with this girl. hee hee

#4 Justin received a gift basket full of EVERYTHING you could possible need to make banana splits with a card that read "I'll go bananas if you won't go to the dance with me." Now this was a family favorite since Justin was nice enough to share his treat with the rest of us.

Well back to today. Justin came up with this idea all on his own. It is so funny and is totally his personality. But I wanted to get some other opinions. So, I will tell you what he came up with, and you tell me what you think:

He wants to get a bunch of Baby Ruth candy bars, unwrap them and put them all over her room. Then leave a roll of toilet paper which has the message, "Thanks for going to prom with me. If you would have said no, I would have felt like crap".

I know you are crack'n up. It is so dang hilarious. But is it too much? Would you be offended if it was your daughter? Be honest! We really want to know!

Maybe "like a turd" would be better. But this is just a very picky mom talking =). Otherwise a LOVE the idea!!! I once laminated my name on a very small piece of paper and stuck it in a cake. Luckily he knew it was me because he never found the name. He thought he ate it.

LOL! I think it depends on the parents...I would crack up!

It shows his personality, Lynell. =) And to be honest, I have never heard of that one before. It's quite original.=) Another idea: It really would have "bummed me out" if you had said no. (I'm cracking myself up here.) I can't believe he asked her in a text message... lol but I'm so glad that he is going.

It's a great idea.... and I would hope another parent wouldn't be offended by the word "crap".... this coming from your not-raised-in-the-church-potty-mouth-convert.

It's excellent....

Original...I would laugh, for sure!

I promise we won't have a Crappy time.

I promise not to treat you like Crap.

If you don't have fun, your dad can beat the Crap outta me.

Crap, now I need to rent a tux.

Glad you see past all my crap.

hee hee! Couldn't resist...they kept coming!

I think its great I would laugh so hard.

I love the candy bar idea, but I would totally go with one of the quotes from "my goodness" above, either the tux or crappy time one made me laugh! And I was thinking I would only want ONE candy bar in my room, don't want to get fat before prom, and don't want melted crap all over! LOL!! Just my 2 cents.

I. love. it.
"A" for originality.
Who would be offended over that?
I have never heard of doing that before...but I think it is a great idea!

* just be careful not to place the "crap" on a white comforter or
something that might become "soiled".

That is totally up my alley, but then again my "word" is crap so I think that's so funny!

That is halarious! I grew up back east and we never did stuff like that it was always "see ya there- catch a ride"........I think he should do it especially since he came up with it on his own.
Love It!

I think it sounds cute and quirky! I sure wish they had done things like this when I went to school! What a wonderful way to get asked to a dance!

I love it! It's all BOY. I say go for it.

It totally depends on your audience, you know, the old "know your audience" advice. Personally, I think it's funny. I would use Justin's sentence PLUS use ALL of "my goodness"'s comments too. The combination is hiliarious!

I just think it's great that he came up with it on his own. Go Justie! She's a lucky girl!

I think it is funny. If it fits the girls personality too. Where I grew up we never asked in ways like this. they are so cute! You have great ideas I will have to remember for when my girls get older.

Wow, you got a lot of responses. I'm glad that Justi is going to the prom. Let us know what he ends up doing.

That's hilarious! If the girl has any sense of humor at all I think she'll think it's funny. Really original too! Go for it!

I didn't grow up in Utah with this fun dance traditions, I totally dig it! I would so do this one, he is creative and it is so funny!

I think as long as the family has a sense of humor it will be a hit!

My Senior did a Pinata with notes in Spanish and his name hidden in a tiny box of Nerds. (Spanish theme for their Prom).

I'll have to do this for my son, especially since I have 5 more kids coming up who will need dance invite ideas. We didn't do this where I went to HS, but in Mesa they did. I think it's a fun thing to do, but man it gets old coming up with new creative ideas after 3 years.

Did he do it? How did it turn out?

You are totally right, I was cracking up!! No, I wouldn't be offended if it was left for my daughter I'd be relieved it wasn't one of those cutsey heartsy fartsy things!
Way to go Justin, he's my kind of kid!!!
Love it!!!
